Abstract

Internationalisation of higher education in India has grown rapidly over the past several decades and gained central position in the field of academia. But there are hardly any studies found in the Indian context which comprehensively enumerate the proper dimensions of Internationalisation with respect to Indian Higher Education System. Extant literature presents broad dimensions like student or faculty exchange programmes, Indian and foreign university partnerships, curriculum upgradation and others but most findings are either not exhaustive or not in agreement with each other. Thus, there lies a void in literature as it lacks a holistic taxonomy for internationalisation of Indian Higher Management Institutions (IHMI). To bridge this gap, this article aims to offer a taxonomy for the dimensions of Internationalisation with respect to Indian Higher Education System. The present study follows the structured review method to analyse the accessible literature around internationalisation of higher education from 2000 to 2022. Research articles, journals, reports, conference papers and books extracted from EBSCO, Science Direct, Scopus, Springer and the like have been considered for review. Three prominent themes, namely strategic, structural and policy dimensions, along with their corresponding sub themes were the outcomes of this study, which are seen to cover all major aspects of Internationalisation as enumerated in different literature.
