This paper presents the analysis of expert interviews and a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of 348 research articles from 2003 to 2023, specifically focusing on applying Virtual Reality in Higher Education. The study conducted semi-structured interviews with educators and students to gather qualitative data on their experiences with VR. Thematic analysis was used to identify recurring themes and patterns. In later section delves into publishing trends, prominent journals, and noteworthy contributors, including authors, institutions, and countries. The results provide insightful information for researchers, assisting in selecting reputable journals for publishing and highlighting significant study areas and new subfields. Future research should explore integrating VR with emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and data analytics to develop sophisticated higher education solutions.
