Abstract

This chapter discusses the relationship between gender, mobility and higher education. There have been fewer studies that look at intergenerational mobility (IGM) of females in developing countries such as India. Usually, IGM studies employ data collected through household surveys and require locating of parent–child pairs for analysis. Therefore, information on married daughters of the household is missing on account of the patrilocal practice. This study uses a novel dataset, Cycle to Empowerment Project (CTEP), which includes information on daughters of the household independent of the married status, thereby filling an important gap in studies about intergenerational mobility of women.
