Abstract
Rabindranath Tagore was an ‘organic intellectual’ (Gramsci 1971), whose thoughts and work still intrigues many because of his unique ability to find synthesis between supposedly contradictory ideas. Though he is more well-known as a mystical poet, he spent much of his life-time, energy and material resources to build a school and a University for rural reconstruction, environmental sustainability, as well as international intercultural understanding
