Globally, women's representation in higher education has seen significant growth, contributing to a substantial increase in female labor force participation. However, in India, despite achieving gender parity in access to higher education, progress in closing gender gaps within the labor force remains limited. While enrollment figures in higher education reflect gender parity, the representation of women in academic careers similarly mirrors this balance. Yet, women continue to be underrepresented in senior academic roles, with fewer than 10% of higher education institutions led by women and less than 30% holding professor positions in India (MOE, 2022)
