Clinical and policy guidelines inform responses to sexual violence, but gaps remain in our knowledge of the most effective ways of recovery from sexual violence. The purpose of this scoping review is to explore the multitude of factors influencing the recovery process in survivors of sexual violence. This review followed five consecutive steps specified in the Arksey and O'Malley framework. Adopting PRSIMA standards, several databases (PubMed, WOS EBSCOhost, Science Direct, Cochrane, Scopus, Embase, and ProQuest) were used to review empirical literature. Preliminary searches retrieved 143 articles. Of those retrieved, 33 met the study criteria for inclusion. Results were organised according to themes: Psychosocial interventions; formal and informal social support; control over recovery; posttraumatic growth and recovery with time; and resilience. These findings highlight the multifaceted nature of recovery from sexual violence and underscore the importance of comprehensive, trauma-informed interventions that address psychological, social, and existential dimensions of healing.
