Abstract
As of 2021 India committed to intensifying climate measures in a strategy to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070. While this long-term commitment marks a significant shift in climate goals, there is little discussion of the need for a holistic climate change framework legislation in India. There is, instead, a lack of specificity about how the country’s ambitious goals will be actualized. This article maps India’s laws and policies relating to climate change and takes stock of its mitigation measures to implement its ndc. We ask whether the current domestic framework is adequate to realize India’s long-term climate goals – or whether it needs a legislative overhaul.
