Abstract
The above statement gives much needed context to the issue that is going to be addressed in this paper. Due to the fast and rapid integration of technology in all aspects of human life and business, it would be unreasonable to assume that cyber risk is an isolated issue. Truly, even ship owners have realised the extent to which cyber risks can affect their liability when carrying out business.2 Viewed holistically, the supply chain facilitated by shipping is already cyber integrated at various stages; whether it be in the use of on-board navigational aids or in the transactional aspect (emails, document exchange, electronic transfer of funds, etc.) of carriage of goods. To this extent, it is worth acknowledging the existence of cyber risks that can cause damage or loss to the ship owner at various stages of the business.
