Abstract

The advent of industrialisation has expedited the process of environmental degradation, resulting in an urgent need to devise innovative solutions to facilitate sustainable development. With a tripartite focus on ecological integrity, societal equity, and economic feasibility, sustainable development has become a harbinger of global progress, indicating how companies significantly influence the environmental, social, and economic ethos. Green Bonds is a novel form of finance designed to advance sustainable investing in environmentally friendly projects. Originating in the European Union in 2008, they still exist at a nascent stage in the Indian subcontinent. While the Companies Act 2013 has attempted to harmonise corporate operations and sustainable development in India, much is yet to be accomplished. India's sovereign green bonds are majorly unregulated, making its commitment to sustainable development a farce. The present research attempts to delve deeper into the symbiotic and multifaceted relationship between green bonds as a climate financing mechanism and the Companies Act 2013 to underscore how the legislative framework acts as a catalyst for advancing conscientious business processes. It employs a comparative method for investigating the evolving interplay of green bonds in the Indian context. It concludes with a suggestive guide for governing green bonds in India.
