Abstract
In India’s military history, ranging from the period between 2014 and 2024 would be seen as a decade of significant transformation. During these years, India’s defence sector underwent a substantial shift, driven by the government’s push for increased defence manufacturing. This marked a departure from hesitancy to a critical need which has also led many other countries look at India as a viable defence market. The Modi government’s push for Atmanirbhar Bharat culminated in 2024 when India shattered all production records by producing defence goods worth $15 billion, an alltime high.1 This achievement showcases India’s drive for indigenization in the defence sector, with multiple reforms aimed at improving defence preparedness and procurement. Despite being the second-highest importer of defence products and the fourth-largest military spender in the world, according to SIPRI2 , India has made considerable strides toward self-reliance.
