Abstract
An hour before I penned this review, I was watching a YouTube Short featuring Kareena Kapoor scoffing at the term ‘influencers’ during a podcast hosted by fellow Indian actor Neha Dhupia (2024). Kapoor is an Indian actress belonging to a renowned ‘film family’ that has intergenerationally been raised and has worked in the Mumbai-based film industry. While Kapoor might deride the term ‘influencer’, who are mostly new-age digital content creators, she ironically did so through a YouTube podcast – a storytelling form that has become a critical part of a new wave of digital content creation. Interestingly, Kapoor herself hosts a show on YouTube named What Women Want, which is also broadcast as a radio show owned by Mirchi Radio, owned by media conglomerate Entertainment Network India Limited (ENIL), a subsidiary of The Times Group, illustrating the hybrid nature of contemporary media production.
