Abstract
Under the leadership of Xi Jinping, there has been an increase in the level of control towards the Chinese media. With changes in a number of laws and policies, Xi has consistently increased the degree of control. However, the control over the Chinese media should not be perceived only from a domestic point of view. True, that the Party believes that the monitoring of the media is an effective way to maintain the peace and stability within the Chinese society. It also helps in curtailing criticism from gaining strength. But it also serves as a very important tool in foreign policy and global image projection.
