Abstract
The wedding season brings many consumers to salons for hairdressing and makeup services, either in-salon or at home. While experiences are typically positive, issues such as poor service or damage can arise, leading to disputes. Under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, consumers are entitled to rights and remedies if they experience a deficiency in service. Salons, as service providers, can be held liable for unfair trade practices, deficient services, or negligence. Legal cases such as Aashna Roy vs ITC (2018), where a consumer was awarded compensation for a bad haircut, highlight the importance of clear evidence in seeking redress. Consumers should ensure they document services, including photographs and expert opinions, when pursuing compensation for damages, such as hair damage caused by chemical treatments.
