Abstract
Wedding photography plays a vital role in preserving memories, making it essential for consumers to understand their rights when hiring photographers. Under the Consumer Protection Act 2019, photography services are classified as "services," and consumers can seek redress for deficiencies, such as delayed deliveries, data loss, or failure to meet contractual obligations. The law protects consumers through clear contracts that outline deliverables like the number of photos, editing requirements, and delivery timelines. Cases like Sakshi Kumar vs Rana Gurtej Singh (2018) and Satyam Gurung vs Samden Yolmo (2024) illustrate the importance of professional standards, including timely delivery and safeguarding of digital data. Photographers are held accountable for ensuring proper backups and data security if technical issues lead to data loss. Consumers can file complaints with consumer forums for timely resolution, which may include compensation for mental distress, delayed services, or data loss.
