Abstract
Th e Indian Constitution has been amended 103 times since 1950, approximating to more than one amendment per year over almost seven decades. 1 Th is pattern of constitutional change in India has been viewed as ‘ unacceptably high ’ and a sign of constitutional pathology. Introspection about this phenomenon led to the 50th anniversary of the Constitution in 2000 being marked by the establishment of the National Commission to Review the Working of the Constitution.
