India has witnessed a drastic increase in cybercrime in recent years, spurred by technological advances and the significant growth in the country’s internet user base. The digital explosion caused by the Covid-19 pandemic has also been a factor. Digital technologies have spawned a wave of cybercrime techniques, with ‘digital arrest’ being one of the latest scams. In ‘digital arrest’, fraudsters imitate law-enforcement officials to extort money from individuals.
