MNPs, by the virtue of their extremely small size are very potent in causing huge destruction to our environment and local ecosystems. MNPs impart a sustaining damage on our atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, and collectively on our biosphere. They can be easily transported and spread to distant locations from their source of origination, thanks to their small size and light weight characteristics. Once out in the wild, MNPs are very hard to get filtered out from our environment and degraded. MNPs cause a lot of negative impact on our aquatic as well as the soil ecosystem. They hinder the activities of natural microflora of these ecosystems as well as they get into our food chains via plants, fishes, etc. Once incorporated into our food chain, MNPs leave a drastic effect on every trophic level, with most acute and severe effect on the higher trophic levels i.e. tertiary trophic level which includes humans.
