Abstract

This chapter identifies the issues related to inventory management activities of sugar industries. It explores the impact of information technology (IT) applications that can facilitate inventory management. Qualitative and quantitative research approaches were used to identify and validate the inventory management issues in the sugar supply chain. A total of 340 respondents were from sugar mills, distributors, IT companies and large-sized sugar-consuming companies. Factor analysis was carried out to identify relevant inventory management issues in the sugar supply chain. Factor analysis helped in identifying the valid factors and related measures. The regression method was used to identify a relationship between various independent issues and a dependent issue. Hypothesis testing was used for issues related to managing inventory activities. Accordingly, for consistent business exercises, it is advisable to make a typical foundation of the IT application. The sugar industry can build its intensity over other different enterprises by using IT applications.
