Abstract

Cyber Security is a primary concern in the digital world today. Abundant literature tackling various cyber threats is available in this domain. As technology advances, cyberattacks get complicated, making prevention detection and reacting to threats complex with attack-specific solutions. Hence, a holistic approach to cyber security is necessary. Game theory is one of the holistic approaches practised in cyber security. Therefore, this work runs a “bibliometric analysis” of available literature on game theory in cyber security published between 2016 and 31 December 2023. The authors analysed one thousand three hundred five (1305) documents on the game theoretic approach to cybersecurity collected from the SCOPUS database. In this study, game theory was the most frequent keyword, followed by security, Nash-equilibrium, and network security. The present growth trends suggest a considerable increase in publications globally on the game-theoretic approach to cybersecurity. China has made a tremendous contribution to this critical field. The application of Stackelberg games, Evolutionary Game theory, and holistic cyber-defence systems have a high scope for future research.
