The Indian Sub-continent has been home to many countries and India being at the centre of them all, not just geographically but also strategically has made one thing clear that India’s Foreign Policy is incomplete without its neighbours. Since, India is surrounded by many neighbours, India has always tried to maintain the bets of relations with each one of them. In fact, India over a period has been able to develop policies which cater to this domain. One of the best examples of India’s Foreign Policies towards its neighbours can be seen in the ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’ which has been working with engaging relations with the immediate neighbours and further, an extended version of India’s ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’ can be seen in India’s ‘Act East Policy’(AEP) which is vital for the Indo-Pacific region. The relationship between India and Japan exemplifies the excellent bond that the two countries share and, displace the success of the ‘Act East Policy’ which in turn also promotes India’s ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’. Thereby, the aim of the paper is to show the intertwined connection between India’s ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’ and India’s ‘Act East Policy’ and depicts the importance of ‘Act East Policy by tracing the enormous efforts that India-Japan are making in the North-Eastern Region (NER) and, highlighting the efforts made by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The paper would also discuss about the possible future contributions which can be worked upon by India and Japan in the domain of India’s North-Eastern Region (NER) which would further strengthen India’s ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’, India’s ‘Act East Policy’ and Japan’s ‘Free and Open Indo-Pacific”.
