Abstract
Celebrating and launching this inspiring book with Professor Lesley Head at the School of Geography at the University of Melbourne was a multicultural event that circulated immense joy. There was a warm welcoming atmosphere in the small tearoom where geographers from Melbourne huddled together a few months before Covid-19 lockdowns. Inspired by the illuminating work of Ruth Fincher, Kurt Iveson, Helga Leitner and Valerie Preston, we occupied space with relative comfort after acknowledging we were on unceded Wurundjeri Country in a settler colonial city. Since that day, solidarities that emerged following the brutal death of African-American George Floydand the Covid-19 pandemic suggests that when atmospheres are toxic it is possible to come together across difference so everybody can breathe. These possibilities are explored in this pivotal book that focuses on everyday equalities
