Abstract
The planning for freight transportation comprises several activities that facilitate the transportation process but cause complexities. Mode choice problem (MCP) is one of the crucial activities affecting the performance of the freight transportation. A strong consideration for the decision process in mode choice/selection issues might reduce the complexities of managing transportation network in case of disruptions such as COVID-19. Therefore, it becomes essential to understand the complexities of MCP in facilitating the transportation system and prepare lessons for future disruptions. A content and bibliometric analysis is presented on previous studies specific to MCPs in context of freight transportation. The contribution of this study is threefold. Firstly, bibliometric analysis is presented to highlight the research trends. Secondly, the classification of focus research areas are presented. Lastly, the identification of challenges and issues are projected for future research domains.
