Abstract
The Sriperumbudur-Oragadam suburban region on the outskirts of Chennai metropolis in the South Indian State of Tamil Nadu is pro-jected as a new growth centre and as a favoured destination for real es-tate investment (Ernst and Young 2014; JLL 2014). The government of Tamil Nadu intends to develop the region as a global hub of manufac-turing. It implemented several projects for building industrial parks (IPs), Special Economic Zones (SEZs), and Industrial Corridors (ICs). These interventions accelerated the real estate development in the re-gion and put upward pressure on land prices. Indian and internation-al real estate development firms promoted integrated townships and gated housing complexes, anticipating the demand for housing from the employees of multinational companies and non-resident Indians. This chapter explores the micro-practices of land transformation in the region.
