Abstract
The award recently of the Man Booker prize to Geetanjali Shree’s Tomb of Sand (translated from the original Ret Samadhi in Hindi) heralds the arrival on world stage of Indian literature produced in Hindi, and by implication, in other Indian languages. It also opens up new vistas for translated works although some ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ still remind one of colonial-era and are anachronistic for the postmodern world.
