Abstract
This study examines the geotourism potential of the Bhiar Dhar cave near Chakrata, Uttarakhand. The Bhiar Dhar cave is one of the very few caves in the Himalayas, showing a variety of speleothem features and forms. The cave encompasses stalagmites, stalactites, flowstones, straw, column, cave curtains, diapirs, etc., which are very important for showcasing the geological features in their natural form. Cave features are under threat of devastation because of a lack of awareness. This cave has immense potential to be developed as a geotourism site and demands immediate actions for its conservation. Locals need to be aware of its geological importance. A trekking route can also be developed for the cave from the Gorcha village that will attract tourists and interalia revenue/income opportunities in the region.
