Abstract
The Indian Copyright Act of 1957 protects an original choreographic work that is fixated in some form. However, the act doesn't define the scope and extent of such protection. The requirement of such fixation in some form negates the possibility of extending copyright protection to choreographies that are presented live. The Apex court of India treats, as per the statutory provisions, dance choreography to be a subset of dramatic work when it comes to its copyrightability.
