Abstract
The launch of the South Asian satellite (GSAT-9) from India’s Sriharikota rocket centre earlier this month is an extraordinary milestone in the history of a subcontinent fragmented by decades of petty politics and rivalries. By linking seven of the eight member countries of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc), the observation and communication satellite — designed and financed by India — has taken the region to new heights in cooperation.
