Abstract
Very aptly titled, Wombs in labor: transnational commercial surrogacy in India highlights the unchallenged politics of labor extraction in gestational surrogacy. The nine chapters by Pande portray the landscape of the global surrogacy market and critique the skewed legal structure associated with it. While the theoretical framework is not extremely novel, the relevance of the topic and the nuanced ethnographic revelations make the book an extremely interesting read.
