Abstract
The publication ‘Monitoring Framework for Implementation of Human Rights to Adequate Food in Nepal’ addresses a felt need for a country-specific monitoring framework for the implementation of this fundamental human right. The right to adequate food has for years now been an important part of the political agenda in Nepal. Yet, government efforts to implement food security policies through different public programs have not borne the desired results. Lack of policy coherence across sectors that have a direct bearing on the country’s food security is often cited as a factor for inadequate results. While indeed there have been several initiatives in recent times to build a coordinated approach to address food security concerns in the country, there remains a space for implementing a human rights-based approach (HRBA) to food security in the country. This is well recognized by various development and human rights stakeholders
