Abstract

The technology has completely changed the outlook of libraries today — where certain functions within the library are seeming to fade away while other functions are becoming magnified as they are central to what will make libraries evermore important in the future? Libraries and information centers had witnessed a drastic change over the past few years. Information World out there is continuously changing with the advancement of new technology. Library users are transforming into customers with rising expectations, diverse needs, and choices. Now, the real challenge for library and information professionals is not to manage the collection, staff technology but to turn these resources into services and attain a higher level of user satisfaction. This feeling has not only completely changed the working style, work ethics and moreover quality, qualification for LIS professionals as well. This Paper attempts to bring out the impact of Technology in library and library profession which has not only changed the role of librarians but also demands the new set of skills that has become a very essential part for library profession in the current scenario.
