In this chapter, the author shares some recollections from the collaboration he enjoyed with Satya N. Nandan in the preparation of what was to prove one of the most influential documents in the negotiations at the Third United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea. The text which Satya prepared at the request of Chairman Galindo Pohl became a document of the Conference entitled the Informal Single Negotiating Text, Part II (ISNT). Although it could not be reliably predicted at the time, the ISNT proved to be the basis on which all subsequent negotiations on the matters before the Second Committee were based, culminating in the adoption of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), after having gone through a number of revisions. The articles on delimitation of the Exclusive Economic Zone and the continental shelf were the last provisions agreed at the Conference.
