Abstract
India is a nation that has been built on the recognition of diversity and pluralism. Every aspect of diversity is deeply embedded into the social and political fabric of the nation. The idea of an India nation state is based upon this inherent civilization heritage. ASEAN is an important part of the world where several countries have come together to build an identity based upon shared vision and perspectives, while recognizing diversity and cosmopolitanism within the region. This recognition of diversity and pluralism-of all kinds including, but not limited to religion and language makes India and ASEAN uniquely situated to build a deeper and perva sive engagement with each other.
