Abstract
In-depth analyses of relationships with individual neighbors may reveal that pursuit of economic objectives have sometimes caused goals of a more normative nature to be relegated lower down the order of priorities. In the case of relations with China for instance this is observed in the inclination of member states to priorities bilateral economic ties with China.
