Abstract
I’d like to begin with a conversation that I had with one of my colleagues on the topic, and I happened to use the metaphor of an elephant for fake news: the example of blindfolded children feeling an elephant: one is holding a tail, the other an ear, both think they are correct, but no one acknowledges the elephant in the room. My colleague interjected, saying that an elephant does not do justice to the idea of fake news. It has a sense of stability to it. For fake news you need a slippery eel, which stings you when you touch it. So here I am acknowledging the eel in the room, beginning with the ocean it flourishes in, the Internet.
