This study explores the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into human resource information systems (HRIS) and its transformative impact on both strategic and operational aspects of human resource management. Employing a bibliometric and systematic literature review, the research analysed 319 peer-reviewed articles published between 2002 and 2025, sourced from the Scopus database. VOSviewer and Biblioshiny facilitated co-authorship analysis, keyword mapping, thematic evolution, and cluster-based network visualisation. The findings reveal a significant surge in AI-HRIS research post-2022, largely driven by advancements in generative AI and predictive analytics. India emerged as a central hub in global collaborations, especially with Gulf and Southeast Asian nations. Thematic mapping shows a shift from traditional HR automation to more advanced areas such as algorithmic decision-making, ethical AI, and employee sentiment analysis. As one of the first integrated reviews in this domain, the study offers valuable insights for scholars, HR professionals, and developers navigating AI-driven HR transformation.
