Abstract

Higher education institutions have become more aware of the sorts of mental health issues that may affect their students, including, but not limited to, issues related to emotional victimization and the effects of such. As a result, the utilization of creative arts therapies has been developed as an effective way to deal with such issues and enhance students’ health. To explore this problem statement, the article conducts a systematic review following the PRISMA checklist and reviewed 26 articles. The paper examines various mental health challenges faced by youth in higher education, evidence on the effectiveness of psychological interventions in improving the mental health and well-being of students in higher education, the impact of traditional psychological interventions compared to creative arts therapy interventions on student mental health and the future course of research in our current understanding creative arts therapy in improving the mental health and well-being of students in higher education. The review conducted a thematic analysis, exploring four major themes that reflect the paper's inquiry. The findings provided substantive results over a range of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, and stress in youth, and the efficacy of creative arts therapy. The paper also provided evidence on the role of creative arts therapy in reducing emotional victimization in youth in higher education institutions.
