Abstract
Domestic violence victims prevail in a large number in Bangladesh. About 87% of Bangladeshi married women are abused by their husbands. However, only a handful of 1.1% of victims reports it to the police and court. In fact, in Bangladesh, victimized women usually try to avoid the legal process. In this situation, it is much expected that different scholars and institutions would conduct researches on this very significant issue. However, unfortunately, the field is still largely unexplored from empirical research. Hence, this study examines how domestic violence victims are treated in the criminal justice system of Bangladesh. Besides, the research investigates the domestic violence victims’ expectations from and experiences in the criminal justice system of Bangladesh. It discovers that the expectations of the victims from the criminal justice system are not adequately fulfilled, and their experiences with the system are also bitter. Thus, the research finds many shortcomings in the criminal justice system in Bangladesh. Hence, suggestions have been made in research about how to improve the situation.
