Abstract

Industrial emissions continue to be a major source of greenhouse gas production globally, especially in the emerging countries experiencing a high rate of urbanization and industrialisation. This paper examines how circular economy (CE) tactics can help reduce the carbon output of industries in three sample emerging economies, India, Brazil, and South Africa. Adopting a qualitative, comparative case study research design, the study relies on secondary information sources, including policy reports, institutional publications and documented projects on CE. They identified five main CE strategies: industrial symbiosis, material substitution, product life extension, waste-to-resource conversion and resource-efficient design. The level of impact of emission reduction was between 5 and 25%, depending on sectors, the scale and institutional preparations. The research creates a scalable framework of CE implementation that has been tested in country cases with major enablers identified to be policy integration, infrastructure preparedness, and innovation support. Findings indicate that the CE adoption will be a strategic lever to the low-carbon industrial transformation in the Global South. The paper is concluded by policy recommendations, as well as areas of future empirical validation that can be used to support CE as an attainable climate mitigation and sustainability pathway in emerging industrial systems.
