Abstract

A strong agriculture sector plays an important role in ensuring the food security of a country. In addition to the ecological and social importance of seeds, the seeds’ quality holds the utmost priority in the agricultural supply chain, thus governments are employing tactics focused on seed quality, and traceability. Governments have been deploying emerging technological tools to monitor the various phases of the agricultural supply chain. This paper analyzes the role of GovTech in agricultural seed-traceability. I examine the same by understanding the deployment of blockchain-based techniques by the government of the Indian state of Jharkhand. Thus, this paper demonstrates the responsible action undertaken by the government to ensure transparency, efficiency, and immutability in the agricultural supply chain data which leads to effective seed traceability and eventually quality. The paper presents a potential guide for policymakers and government institutions in reconfiguring the agricultural sector.
