The Indian sports industry stands at a crucial juncture with the 2024 Sports Policy laying down a comprehensive vision for achieving the same. PPPs are seen as a core part of this vision as they are effective value-for-money mechanisms to improve otherwise costly sports infrastructure and promote holistic development in the field. However, in order for effective implementation, the presence of robust legal and regulatory frameworks is vital to facilitate the integration of PPPs with sustainability principles. However, the current absence of dedicated central legislation for PPPs has led to a fragmented regulatory landscape across states. This paper argues that bridging these legal and regulatory gaps is essential for unlocking the full potential of sports PPPs. To accomplish this, India can take inspiration from the global success stories which have already accomplished this. Thus, if implemented strategically, PPPs supported by robust legal frameworks can propel the Indian sports sector forward, bringing about economic development, social unity and global repute.
