This research focuses on Artificial Intelligence's current and future potential in art. Applying a systematic literature review method and bibliometric analysis, the paper reveals the main trends and technologies that define AI in art. It conducts a literature search using an SLR and bibliometric analysis to identify key authors and clusters of research. It gives a good overview of the current state; it is more formal. Several new trends are identified in the context of the discussed findings, including the symbiosis of human artists and AI, AI-customized artistic experiences, AI's impact on cultural, ethical, social, and experimental concerns, and new movements in art inspired by AI. These trends show that AI is revolutionising art, paving the way for new forms of creativity, and opening up art to new audiences. Implications are pointed at the societal changes due to AI technology; ethics and cultural diversity matter here. This paper's contribution is twofold, as it employs a dual-method procedure to generate new insights in the AI art domain and inform future research and practice
