Abstract

Environmental responsibility is now a crucial aspect of modern industry. Embracing eco-consciousness in every aspect of the supply chain enhances organizational reputation and further legitimizes the organization. To improve supply chain sustainability, companies have also started implementing advanced technologies including robotics. Various research has been conducted on ways to adopt and integrate robotics in the automobile, electronic, and pharma industries. However, most of them focus on the technological impact of robotics in improving productivity and supply chain performance. In contrast, this study discusses the implications of robotics in making a sustainable supply chain. The study used narrative literature to review methodology and analyzed the application of robotics for sustainable supply chain management across industries. Also, this study presents how robotics technology is ideal for waste management and reverse logistics operations. The trends and gaps identified through this study allow us to develop a reasoned agenda to guide future technology-enabled sustainable supply chain measures. This study would be helpful for practitioners, policymakers, and academia working in robotics and automation of supply chain operations.
