This chapter discusses India as a balancing power between the East and the West. India has emerged as a pivotal player in the contemporary geopolitical landscape in the past few years, deftly balancing its relations between Eastern and Western powers. Despite being in the middle of an ideological and cultural clashing binary, India’s strategic interests, economic ambitions, and cultural ties drive this balancing act. New Delhi is pursuing its delicate balance between achieving strategic autonomy through multi-aligned foreign policy. It includes developing regional institutional frameworks, representing regional ambitions and aspirations at multilateral institutions, and managing relations with nations with differing ideological and political systems. As Indian leadership navigates this complex web of international relations and increasing global tensions, it faces the dual challenge of fostering cooperation while addressing regional anxieties and managing global expectations.
