Abstract

This case examines the digital transformation of air travel in India via the DigiYatra initiative—a facial recognition technology introduced by the Ministry of Civil Aviation to facilitate smooth and contactless airport experiences. The scenario, informed by passengers’ experiences over the past 3 months, underscores the potential of DigiYatra while also addressing significant implementation obstacles, such as knowledge deficits, privacy issues, and infrastructure preparedness. It examines how DigiYatra employs facial recognition technology to improve the air travel experience for travelers. This case study prompts students to contemplate techniques for fostering acceptance and trust in digital infrastructure while inviting a broader discussion on the future of technology-driven governance and travel.
