Abstract

In the past few years, manufacturing firms are under a lot of pressure to be responsible for the operations so that the impact on environment can be minimized. These pressures have led firms to implement sustainable and green practices. This paper examines the effect of green and sustainable practices on performance factors. The practices considered in this study include reverse supply chain (RSC) and social sustainability (SS) practices. The effect of each of these practices on performance factors (environmental and financial performance) is examined. The influence level of environmental drivers in form of coercive pressure and noncoercive pressures is also investigated. The aims of this study are achieved by survey study, which is conducted with professionals in manufacturing organizations in Canada. The collected data is analyzed by partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) approach. The findings of the study reveal that non-coercive drivers motivate organizations to implement RSC and SS practices, whereas no impact of coercive pressure on these practices is found. Further, findings also show that RSC and SS practices have direct positive effect on environmental performance, and indirect effect on financial performance. The results are useful for managers interested to implement RSC and SS practices.
