Abstract

“White collar crimes” are categorized as crimes that are non-violent and fall directly or indirectly under the domain of financial gain or avoiding gain to any individuals. National Crime Records Bureau’s Crime in India report notifies that the reporting of the Economic of has fluctuated over the year from 142560 cases (2014), 150170 (2015), 143524 cases (2016), and 148972 (2017). The chapter discusses the overwhelming increase in financial crime with a need for a dedicated discipline in understanding white-collar criminals and financial crime. The chapter expresses the need for sub-discipline in criminology naming as Financial Criminology and states its operational definition for practice. The chapter suggests that Financial criminology as a discipline in criminology would act as a promoter into the research and studies of financial crime. The ever-growing financial frauds ranging from money laundering, smuggling, corporate frauds, tax evasion, cybercrime has emphasized in a dedicated discipline with courses creating a pool of experts and professionals contributing to control. the menace of financial crime and deterring the potential criminality in economic offenses.
