In this thesis, various laws surrounding sex work and sex trafficking in India have been studied to understand how lacunae in law, if any, impact women in the commercial sex industry. The underlying perspective for this thesis is that sex work and sex trafficking are distinct activities. Thus, there may be a need for a distinct set of laws. This thesis engages predominantly with statutory laws and cases to highlight drawbacks and lacunae, if any, of the Indian legal framework on sex work and sex trafficking. This is substantiated by the lived experiences of women in the commercial sex industry as well as the works of various scholars to gauge multiple perspectives on sex trafficking and sex work.
