Affirmative Action”— this phrase refers to a series of policies and measures that are adopted with the intention to provide equal opportunity and support to social groups that were discriminated against or are being discriminated against on the basis of their identity and social belonging.1 Such policies have been adopted in different forms around the world.2 The premise of affirmative action is that by providing additional support in present times, those social groups, that were left behind because of systemic discrimination against them, could be provided opportunities to grow and be brought into the mainstream.
