People of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) have been exposed to multiple and ongoing adverse events, including violence, transportation accidents, and natural disasters (Bhat and Ranghaia, 2015, 2016a; Dar & Deb, 2020; Housen et al., 2017). Such continuous experiences are related with a variety of negative impacts, which may lead to depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, emotional dysregulation, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and impairment in functioning. Recent studies (e.g., Bhat & Rangaiah, 2016a; Housen et al., 2017) indicate that the most prevalent mental health condition that exists in J&K is PTSD. Existing literature has also reported 49.5% of PTSD symptomatology among young adults in border areas (Bhat & Rangaiah, 2016) and 19% PTSD symptomatology in the overall population of Jammu and Kashmir (Housen et al., 2017). Considerable efforts have been put into recognizing negative consequences, which have proved advantageous in improving or extending different interventions and support systems for the exposed population (Brooks et al., 2016). However, since earlier studies have predominantly concentrated on the negative impact of adverse events i.e., PTSD, without considering the potential positive outcome, there is an utmost requirement for exploration of “positive changes” in response to adversity exposure to acquire a reasonable knowledge of “post-event adaptation”. Such positive changes after exposure to adversities are together identified as posttraumatic growth (PTG) (Tedeschi, 2023; Tedeschi et al., 2018)
