Involving the public in policing is a common definition of community policing. which is only focused on preventing crime and resolving issues. Unlike western countries, in India the concept of community policing has come into light only after 1990s. In western countries, community policing programs were established as state structured organization and performing above the mark, but in India, it is not yet given the status of government policy. It could be the result of a variety of things, including inadequate community policing research, social, political, a lack of awareness of community policing, and more. To the researcher's knowledge, no Indian researchers have yet developed a theory on community policing, which is related to one of the factors of limited research. Instead, only western theories are used by researchers when they perform their research. In this context, this research is an attempt to explain the frequently referred theories of community policing in Indian context. Theories such as “Normative Sponsorship Theory, Broken Windows Theory, Social Resource theory, Public Relations Theory of Community Policing, and Zero Tolerance Theory” were taken into consideration. To realise this objective, assorted literature, facts, government reports have referred and discussed. Implications have also been discussed at the end.
